How to Prepare for Your Permanent Makeup Appointment
Getting ready for your permanent makeup procedure is just as important as the appointment itself. Proper preparation helps ensure your skin is ready, your color heals beautifully, and your experience is as comfortable as possible.
Below is everything you need to know before your visit:
Skincare & Medications
Stop using Retin A, Renova, or similar products at least 30 days before your procedure.
Accutane must be discontinued for at least one year prior.
Stop using fish oil or krill oil at least one month before your appointment.
What to Avoid 48 Hours Before Your Appointment
Unless your doctor has instructed otherwise, please steer clear of the following two days before your service:
Aspirin, Motrin, or similar blood-thinning products (Tylenol/Ibuprofen are okay)
Alcohol
Niacin and Vitamin E
Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, or Evening Primrose Oil
Sunburns
Marijuana or CBD products
Garlic supplements
These items can thin the blood, increase sensitivity, or interfere with pigment retention.
Sensitivity & Medications
If you are premenstrual, be aware you may feel more sensitive during your appointment.
If you are taking anti-anxiety medication, you may continue your normal dosage.
If your doctor requires you to take antibiotics before dental work, check with them to see if antibiotics are recommended before microblading as well.
Makeup & Hygiene
After your appointment, you’ll want to use new makeup that may come in contact with the treated area. This helps prevent secondary infections caused by bacteria in older products.
Timing Around Events
It is not recommended booking your appointment right before major events. Schedule your procedure at least two months prior to important occasions to allow time for full healing and any necessary touch-ups.
Following these guidelines will help ensure your permanent makeup heals evenly, retains color beautifully, and gives you the best possible results.
